The Best Bookstore in Union Square

I went to the new downtown SF bookstore that just opened recently! After Alexanders Books closed there wasn't really a bookstore near Union Square for a bit. The Best Bookstore is near the Powell street Bart/Muni station and the end of the cable car line so it's definitely easy to get to using public transit.

The store inside definitely feels all new and not yet lived in. They had a table display of staff recommendations at the front, shelves that lined the walls, and familiar looking book trucks with more books.

Of course I made my way immediately to the sci-fi/fantasy section to see their selection. The labels for each section were handwritten and charming but also gave off the air that this was a hasty project and will improve later. Unfortunately I didn't find any of the books on my list and with my space and budget constraints I wasn't able to justify any impulse purchases.

Overall this bookstore I think is worth a stop if you're already downtown and close to Union Square (perhaps as a combination visit to the Nintendo Store close by!) but don't expect a huge bookstore collection yet. I'll be excited to see how their store grows in the coming year or so!
