When I went to tea at By the Teashore I was able to stop by 2 bookstores downtown Halfmoon Bay! One of which was a combination new and used bookstore and the other less of a bookstore and more of a tourist and crafting store.
Inkspell
Inkspell is a new and used bookstore located in the old downtown of HalfMoon Bay. Entering the front you see a spacious bookstore with some board games for sale to the left and a hallway to the nonfiction to the right. I of course made a beeline for the fiction section to find the Scifi/Fantasy section. While the store was quite spacious there were actually not a lot of shelves so it doesn't feel very stocked with books or library like some other bookstores feel like.
Unfortunately I didn't find any books I didn't already have in my favorite section especially since it wasn't particularly large. I did appreciate the number of trade paperbacks they had though!
There was a large children's section was a lot bigger overall and they had a lot of used picture books which makes sense as children outgrow those quickly.
Down the hall, which is also the room where the YA books are stocked (also no luck there with the list), you'll find a cozy room where all the non-fiction is. This room felt more bookstore as all the walls were completely full of shelves and stocked as much as possible.
If I were local it would be nice to be able to come here to pre-order my books but as is if I go to By the Teashore again for tea I'd probably stop in since it's so close but I wouldn't go out of my way to drive over to the coast to visit this particular bookstore again.
Coastside Books
Coastside Books is somewhat misnamed in my opinion. They did have a small section of books but the majority of the store was not actually books. Mostly it was cute home wares, small tchotchke souvenirs, and various scrap booking and crafting supplies store. I would not go back to this store as a bookstore but if you were wandering around downtown Halfmoon Bay it might be with a stop in to browse!
