The Kara's Cupcakes I went to is located in the Town and Country Plaza in Palo Alto. I went close to closing so this may affect my review somewhat. Because it was quite late my usual vanilla cake with vanilla frosting was sold out so I got a chocolate frosting instead. The employee at the counter said their most popular flavors were two of the seasonal flavors so I chose the pumpkin seasonal flavor as my second choice.
Atmosphere: The shop was quite small and very bright. There were a few seats inside at a corner but quite a few seats outside that seemed to be kind of shared with other restaurants around the plaza where you can take your food to eat. I guess this is also meant to be more of a to-go cupcake place but I did end up sitting inside to eat my cupcakes at the small counter. Maybe if it wasn't cold and raining when I went I could more happily eat outside. 2/5
Frosting: The frosting was not too sweet and was pretty smooth. Compared to the cake part though it was a little tall/much. If you don't mind a bit more frosting on your cupcake this might be for you! 3/5
Cake: The cake was very dense and only ok moist, no real complaints here for the cake part! A decent cake base though I could have wished it to be a little bit bigger to balance out the frosting 3/5
Price: Each cupcake came out to be ~$6.05 which is a little bit over my expectation of about $5 per cupcake I was expecting most places to be. 3.5/5
Overall rating: 2.9/5
I've had these cupcakes before since they are so close to my favorite/closest independent bookstore so I knew a little bit of what to expect! I will probably come back again due to proximity but so far not my favorite cupcakes!
