Tea Review: Leland Tea Company

I unexpectedly had a free Sunday so I thought I'd try another afternoon tea spot!

Leland Tea Company is in Burlingame really close to the Caltrain station, there's also plenty of parking nearby. It's a little confusing to get there as the address says it's on the main road but it's actually kind of behind those rows of shops. Choice of sandwiches included several vegetarian options not sure about other dietary needs. Reservations were quick over the phone even only a few days in advance.
Ease of access (location, hours, ease of making reservation, dietary menu options): 8.5/10

The inside doesn't look like any other tea shop I've been to, it's not cluttered and cutesy or sleek and modern. I actually have no idea what to call it? It's not my favorite interior for a tea shop but not bad. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed but were really friendly it gave me more of the small town feel that Casting Whimsy from my hometown did. The tea pots were plain brushed metal but also held so much tea!
Atmosphere (décor, place settings, staff): 6/10

The price for tea for two was $55 ($27.50 per person) and includes choice of two sandwiches, house salad, a scone, some small sweets and one pot of tea. We did pay for a second pot of tea because we couldn't decide! I left feeling satisfied but not stuffed and I feel like this was a really good balance of savories and sweets!
Price (value for money): 8.5/10

The tea menu was extensive but not too overwhelming and they even had some in jars off to the side so you could smell them before ordering. We got two that were so good! I even bought some of the Kookiedoodle we had in loose-leaf form to bring home!
Tea: 10/10

The scones were very good! Smallish but perfect texture, a little crumbly but not too dry. On offer for the spreads was raspberry jam but no clotted cream.
Scones (and/or crumpets): 8/10

The savory menu wasn't particularly extensive but there were several classic tea sandwiches. We got chicken salad and tomato pesto both of which were very tasty! The salad was OK, lots of variety with a vinaigrette, I'm just not a huge fan of salads.
Savories: 8/10

The sweets were small but were pretty on balance with everything else! The owner(?) Also came out a bit later and gave us some home made truffles! Apparently sometimes they will just make a batch of something daily or if they have something leftover from a large catering order to add on to tea service. They were a little spicy but not too overwhelming
Sweets: 7/10

Total average rating: 8/10

Overall this was a good place for tea, a little small and basic but very affordable! I'd recommend this place for people local to the peninsula who have a small 2-4 person group and who like the focus to be a little more on the actual tea portion of an afternoon tea. It's the highest rated so far!
